4 stars I had eagerly awaited this album after the superb debut of "the music that died alone." For me, I was in no way disappointed. In fact, I was so pleasantly surprised. Not only is the fantastic talent of "the tangent" in such good form, but the work of Theo Travis and Sam Baine is just beautiful. "stepping the distance" is a wonder of progressive music, but the lyrics, pacing, and mixing of of "the world that we drive through" are almost graceful. The album is very gratifying, sensual {"we can swim with the pyramids and stars"}, and a real joy to the ear. "the tangent" is perhaps the best example of the genre today. They will be, in a modified form in accordance with being an open-ended project, be perfoming at the ROSfest next April in Pennsylvania.
