4 stars This is one of the band's best albums in my opinion. It's more hard-hitting and exciting than the previous Number of the Beast. This 1983 release was Iron Maiden's first with new drummer Nicko McBrain and the musicianship on here is tighter and more synchronized than ever. Some of the songs are also catchier and the recording crisper.

Many of the songs on the album were inspired by interest in books and film. "Where Eagles Dare" is a great starter. My favourites are "Revelations", "The Trooper" "Quest For Fire" and "To Tame A Land". Iron Maiden really did show more of thier character here too. Just listen to some of the lyrics!

For me, this band really stand out as the greatest heavy metal band of the 80's. It is not a perfect album in every way but pretty damn close. Four and a half stars. Highly recommended. .
