3 stars This album reminds me how much I have removed myself from standard rock music since I bought this album (cassette) back when it was released.

The cassette was soon replaced with CD and I really enjoyed the intelligent heavy AOR on this album...... and Blue Oyster Cult in general.

These days, though.....

Imaginos was hailed as a great album by the media when it was released and the band got a new lease of life. I understand why. The music here is very cleverly crafted with some progressive elements packed into this assault of pure 1980s AOR. The music is slightly on the heavy side, but not enough to be called metal. The four good songs here are the title track, Astronomy, Blue Öyster Cult and I Am The One You Warned Me Of. There are no real weak tracks here at all.

The guest list on this album is both long and impressive. That makes the sound a bit disjointed. This album feels more like a project than a real band effort. If my memory serves me right; this is indeed a project effort more than a Blue Oyster Cult album.

The overall result is a good album, but also a slightly dull album. I am not sure if I will ever play this album again though. Some good memories is better left in the past and not to be revisited.
