4 stars i have only given this 4stars because it don't fit as prog rock album. but as an album in general it undoubtly deserves 5. this is an unbeleivable album and just screams intelligence.although it may not be immediatly obvious this is certainly a masterpiece and has a great importants to british music. not every song on this album is great and always pleasing to the ear but thats not the point of this music. theres a whole lot more to this album than meets the ear. these songs are the arts of the years of pain that thom suffered. broken hearts, rejection from society, anger at the way the world is being run, etc. yeah these are things we all have to deal with but thats where the familiarity comes in.you really do find youreslf saying "ohmygod thom knows just how i feel". it made me open my eyes to the world. hes not the greatest singer in the world but he sing with such emotion and really brings the song to life so it haunts you. hes been known to break down in tears while perfoming these songs. the band are clever enough to understand how powerful a single intrument is. the lirics explain things in the purest forms which arent always conventional and others are metaphoric. this can make the songs seem weird. this album goes alot deeper than some people realise. its actually very complex and makes you think. its changed my attitude a whole lot for the better. be careful.if you take this album seriously it can make you think f*ck everything. i dont think thats their intetion.its an intelligent band thatll only be appriciated by an intelligent heart. dont listen if youre depressed coz it will just make you worse
