4 stars Mwaaaaaaa! Another 1970 release from Frank in the Mothers' name, Weasels Ripped My Flesh is an excellent, dare I say perfect overview of the Mothers, featuring a lot of live and even studio work that covers a lot of styles. Oh No from Lumpy Gravy is featured here with a vocal section sung by Ray Collins, and the excellent melody of Orange County Lumber Truck is introduced here beautifully. Also, My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama is here, with an especially nasty horn section in the middle that's extremely catchy. Other than that this is actually a very dissonant and experimental album, Toads of the Short Forest and the Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue are explorative rock work. This album has a loose concept of live to studio performances sometimes coinciding in one track. Another treat here is Get a Little and Directly From My Heart to You, bluesy numbers with excellent soloing. The album ends with horrendous feedback and applause, summarizing the nature of this abstract work from Frank. 8.5/10
