3 stars A patchy album from Fish. 3D opens strongly..... the charming Tiki4 could benefit from a bit more pace and editing ....Long Cold Day is a biting number.... Clock Moves Sideways is perhaps the best track on here.....Obligatory Ballad is simply awful 'though, and a waste of a heartfelt lyric......Our Smile is radio-friendly and deserved airplay but is unlikely to excite prog fans. Main co-writer this time is John Wesley, a fine guitarist but not the best songwriter for Fish. Some songs seem to struggle to end, particularly Pilgrim's Address, which loses its impact somewhat The biggest problem with the album 'though is the sound, which is 'tinny' and seems to lack depth. The same producer subsequently produced the wonderful 'Field of Crows' so it's hard to know quite why this one sounds like it does.
