4 stars Along with THE ROYAL SCAM, parts of GAUCHO and, of course, AJA, this is the best Steely Dan has to offer. It seems to be a bit more rock oriented rather than Jazzy like their later works but it is a wonderful debut from a great band. It's amazing how many classic songs are on this one disc: "Do it Again", "Dirty Work", "Midnight Cruiser", "Reelin in the Years", "Fire in the Hole"..... The only down part of this album are 2 songs which have never interested be much: "Brooklyn" and "Turn That Heartbeat Over". Neither are bad songs, just a little less inspiring then the rest. My only complaint with this disc is the hideous artwork on the cover. 4 stars. Not proggy enough for a 5 star rating.
