This is a very important release in Beatles' career.

It's a transition album in which their maturity in songwriting is huge.

In this issue, Mc Cartney is a step forward from the rest and shows it writing perhaps the greatest song of all time, "Yesterday" (no need at this point to comment anything about this one). But he didn't lose his pop great tunes with "The night before" and the "pop meets country-folk" "I've just seen a face" with a deluxe vocal performance.

Lennon was also inspired and he gives us the wild pop of "Help!", the folky "You've got to hide your love away", the rocky "Ticket to ride" and the semi-ballad "It's only love".

Harrison also writes some interesting material; good although far from his best.

This is the epilogue of the first part of Beatles' career -the one known as "beatlemania"-.

From this point on, there was the best ahead to come.

Although all this, this is a case very similar to "With the Beatles": we find some outstanding and advanced -in musical terms- tracks, but the rest of the album -always far from bad- at sometimes is just filler.
