3 stars I am by no means an expert on Steve Hackett's solo outputs. I am off course a big fan of what he did in Genesis.

This album was released last year and got a lot of attention from everybody but me. And to be fair, this album is not without it's qualities. Steve Hackett has most certainly escaped from the 1970s and ventured out of the tunnel this century. Hence the sound which is very contemporary and is harvesting from a wide area of the last two decades of trends and styles. You find world music here, some symphonic prog, new age, nu-pop, lounge, prog metal and jazz. In other words, this is a very modern sounding album. The long list of contributor is also dragging this album in all directions. This album therefore feels like a family photo-album with everything from pictures of daddy's car to childrens parties to nature photographs from the beach to the highest mountains. I call this a lack of focus though. The only coherent piece here is Steve's guitar. And that is well used here.

The quality is good but nothing more. I am missing a bit more focus and I am also missing some great melodies. And that is the bottom line. An xtra half point is given to Last Train To Istanbul where Steve has got something great going. Besides of that, this album is not floating my boat.
