NO ALTERNATIVE

Obviously, the shadow of King Crimson looms heavily over the Mellotron-laced debut by Jonesy. Compare "Heaven" to "I Talk To The Wind", for example. At this early stage, they hadn't quite picked up on the Crimsonian jazzy sophistication yet, though. So a lot of these tunes ("Mind of the century" and the title track, notably) are more straight-up rock tracks. It is, however, interesting to hear Jimmy Kaleth's Mellotron technique over the course of this album, he plays it like it were a Hammond organ! He stops short of sweeping glissandi across the keys, but the start-stop sound of his playing is quite unnerving if you're not accustomed to it!
