3 stars I was really looking forward to some hours with melodic progressive metal. I was in for a shock.

Sole Remedy is from Finland and you can read my interview with them. In that interview, they listed Tool, Pain Of Salvation, Isis, Pink Floyd and Opeth as some of the reference points for their music. Thanx, that saves me for a lot of hit and miss when listing up references. Of the bands above, I only know Pink Floyd. And yes, there are some ambient Pink Floyd stuff here. But I take a guess and would list those other bands as a far better reference point. The vocals is thrash/death metal grunts. There is also a lot of post rock in the music here. Post metal, it is then. I would also use Korn again a as reference. Hard core (the music style) too springs to mind.

Anyway, the music is very heavy and also melodic at times. Is is based on multiple layers of guitars just thrashing out. Some more simple guitars is also added as a contrast on the more melodic stuff. But the textures is always dense. Dense as in a Wagnerian world. Put it this way: This is not music for grandmothers or middle aged men like myself.

The overall quality is good. I am not entirely comfortable in Sole Remedy's post metal style. But I have heard far worse albums than this album so I will survive. There is a couple of post rock songs here which I really approve off. Three stars it is then and a recommondation to the young people here to check out this rhythmic orchestra.
