4 stars My first impression of National Health was somewhat of a cold, jazz-fusioned version of Hatfield and the North. Although I could appreciate some bits of music here and there, the overall picture of the band wasn't an impressive one. Somehow, a year later I became again increasingly curious about National Health. This time I really dug their music: the joyful insanity of "Collapso"; the Henry Cow -influenced "Squarer for Maud"; the absolutely crazy organ solo of "Dreams Wide Awake; and the wonderful "The Bryden 2-Step" which concludes the album. Their debut is also impressive, especially "Tenemos Roads", but I've come to prefer Of Queues and Cures, which I recommend to every soul interested in the "Canterbury scene", or just fusiony prog or proggy fusion of the seventies.
