4 stars This must certainly be the most under-rated of all VDGG albums (though worth noting the band is technically "Van der Graaf" here, dropping the generator along with a personnel change.)

The sound is very unique and different than the earlier albums -- this LP is almost like a "third phase" in the band's development all by itself! (The follow up "Vital" sounds completely different.) Hammill's vocals are certainly an acquired taste, and this record has some of his most extreme vocals of all. Personally, I like it!!

I give it very high marks for originality -- there simply isn't much to compare this to, even among other Hammill/VDGG records! This might even appeal to people who don't like the "classic" Van . . . .
