5 stars This album is definitely an essential masterpiece of Prog Music...It contains these sickened melodies based on jazz/fusion mixed with the agression of death metal. When I say death metal, don't imagine this terrible vocal growling that sounds like your toilet and splatter lyrics...This is pure death metal growl like hearing someone screaming because he is pissed off...Also the lyrics are based on ancient greek philosophy. The first thing you will say when you start listening to this album is:"Oh God, I am never going to play like this!"There is so much inspiration and atmosphere which fills your head with these mixed feelings.Cynic had a long way in death metal underground before releasing this album. In 1992, a tornado destroyed the guitarist's Paul Masvidal house which made the recordings last a little bit long! If you want to get an idea of how talented are these musicians, check out Human from Death.Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert play in this one, check out what we are talking about..It's a pity that they didn't make another album, they would had written history by this time.Great album!!It's a must!!!!
