4 stars This New Zealand based HIGH DEPENDENCY UNIT crew provides an interesting stylistical variety within their albums. It took me some time to explore their stuff which is offered for streaming on their bandcamp page in its entirety. No regrets, I finally discovered a bunch of challenging space prog tunes, but also heavy psych, post, garage and shoegaze/ambient/drone inspired songs. So this EP, consisting of four songs, has convinced me completely for example ... nah! I would even say left me enthusiastic ... which cries for a review evidently.

It all starts with A Copy Of Yourself - nicely melancholic with acoustic guitar and ambient synth patterns - I especialy like the bass playing. At some point the band launches the engine though featuring crashing and soaring post rock guitars until they finally fall back into the mood where it all has begun. This is what I would call skilled dramaturgy. The fantastic Amino comes in another outfit, shows a tribal groove, Tristan Dingemans offers an echoing space guitar here and ... yeah, vocals which partially sound Sting alike.

Hold On follows as a garage/post rock blend based on a rather stoic behaviour, again provided with soaring guitar walls where Further turns into a classic floating space rock tune with experimental approach, including synth or probably even guitar generated oscillating effects, reminds me on Amplifier in some way. 30 minutes of well thought out music as for the compositional and jamming balance, which leads to the conclusion that HIGH DEPENDENCY UNIT are highly recommended to prog fans who hang out at space, post and even krautrock fields.
