Solo
5 stars First and foremost, the sound quality is NOT bad like everyone complains about. It was in fact professionally recorded on a 3M machine at 30IPS. The console was a 100% discrete API I believe. The sound is *absolutely* fantastic, beyond good, actually moving. The drums are mixed well, the snare sounds amazing, mellotrons sound mellow, not bright like wakeman's, the synths sound mellow, not sharp like moraze's, the guitar tones are very clear and phased and the vocals sound BEAUTIFUL- obviously tracked with a high quality tube mic (noiman u67 if you can imagine). Gilbert's voice is sexy (and i dont mean that in a sexual way!) and the passion in his voice is further hightened by the use of a tube echoplex.

The songs are fabulous, much better than Floyd in my opinion. It doesn't even sound like Pink Floyd at all, I really don't see the comparison (?). Actually I think you can hear Fool's Failure here if you download it, probably heavily compressed but should give you an idea. The synth runs in that song are amazing, and not even complex (particularly at 1:37- 1:39. Oh man, I'd take that synth run over sex any day of the week).

best, John
