OSMOSE

This little known masterpiece of kosmisch psych from Germany from 1970 very much defines the 'krautrock' sub-genre evoking a highly hallucinogenic atmosphere and trippy ambience that the German experimental rockers were known for. Annexus Quam 's distinction on this their debut album was that they developed an otherworldly and mystical atmosphere from a loose improvisational framework of a jazz/ fusion format containing woodwinds, flute, and keyboars, in addition to the tradtional bass, drum, guitar. In each of the four divisions of the title track, the band settles into a groove and organically develop increasingly hypnotic and effect loaded soaring improvisations which literally invoke a feeling of being carried away into space. Unlike most fusion, the performances are not virtuosic, but each instrument improvises into the basic groove of the song and carries the music into avant garde and psychedelic textures invoking an atmosphere much like Pink Floyd's 'A Saucerful of Secrets' or 'Ummagamma'. There is excellent percussion throughout and beautifully integrated musicianship. This is an essential recording for psych?krautrock fans.
