5 stars YOU GOTTA GO TO HELL ON THE BLACK DIAMOND TRAIN

Bright Yellow Moon is an interesting one, that's for sure. It basically drifts in an out of various music "streams," of consciousness if you will, for most of the duration. Chunks of spoken word, chanting, gentle singing and probably some other things too, thrown seemingly haphazardly overtop of churning and strumming and pounding and buzzing. The result sounds more industrial and krautrock than anything else, I suppose, although it's hard to classify it even as that. It probably has more in common with Current 93 and Nurse With Wound's respective earlier albums than it does with what the bands were doing around when they recorded Bright Yellow Moon.

It is said that David Tibet wrote all the lyrics after he almost died, in a hospital hallucinating Terrible and Angelic things. I can easily believe that, and I think knowing the fact perhaps lends more meaning and weight to the album than there may have been otherwise. Bright Yellow Moon can be either a very engaging listen, or effective background music, if you want I suppose. If you let it, this sort of album can be an experience in itself. When he crossed that sea is not known, maybe, but you should listen to it anyway if you are the sort to be fond of this kind of music as I am.
