3 stars Rick Wakeman's The Six Wives of Henry VIII is a keyboard, moog and electric piano driven record with six compositions. It's mainly a one-main show accompanied with some great (background) musicians. Rick Wakeman was already famous for it's membership of Yes and so this record became directly popular by Yesfans.

The openingtracks of side one and two are the best songs of the record. The other tracks lack in composition and are directionless jams. The shifts in styl during the songs makes you think that the wifes of Henry are all a bit schizofrenic, because of the great gaps in cohesion - the compositions were wrote as Wakeman's impression of the six wifes of Henry VIII. I feel a bit confused by this record, because of my impression that there ain't a main vision in this record or even in a single composition.

Still there are some nice moments on the record and it's sure nice listening this record ones or twice to hear the possobilities of all those key-instruments. IMO this record is far from a masterpiece, but good enough to keep in my collection.
