4 stars The Lost Trident Sessions were not really lost. They were just sitting there until somebody cared enough to unleash them. Mahavishnu fans have long hoped for their arrival. I'd like to say that the recording is not good and that they broke up at the right time. But this recording is a brilliant edition to the Mahavishnu library. What I like about the recording is that the keyboard is chiefly in the middle track but that band brings the soloist into the middle track; each player is highlighted when soloing. The keyboard is becoming the anchor of the band and you can see/hear the shift of power that led to the band's demise. McLaughlin has tried to reunite the band several times over the years but Jan Hammer hs always been a hold out. The orchestra is a big part of McLaughlin's legacy but Hammer's is held in his work with Jeff Beck, oh, and that Miami Vice theme.
