FETUS

Fetus is an album "completely dedicated" to Aldous Huxley (as you can read on the booklet) and it is a kind of "concept-album". The music is extremely heterogeneous (sometimes too much!) and try to blend different influences, from Bach (you can hear the "Air on a G string" at the end of track 5 and at the beginning of track 6) to the Quintette du Hot Club de France of Stephan Grappelli and Django Reinhardt (on track 3).

"My mental action is uncertain / the voice is marble and concrete / I live in spite of myself / It's hard to get the control / There's fog around my eyes / The outlines are becoming undefined / I've already forgotten my dimension / Unknown forces are tearing me from myself" (from "Fenomenologia" - my translation is a little bit more literal than that on the English version of the album.). I think that these words describe in some way the mood of the entire album.

The opener "Fetus" is emblematic: it is just a short track in three parts; it begins with vocals and sound effects imitating the heart-beat, then it continues with the synthesizer leading a new theme (that comes back again on track 4) while an acoustic guitar arpeggio introducing another theme leads to the conclusion. Definitely, coherence has not much room here.

"Fetus", though not essential and sometimes incoherent, in my opinion is not a bad album and it brings the seeds of the future works of this eclectic artist.
