4 stars Symphony X, one of the premier bands of Progressive Metal, truly has a masterpiece here. Through out the whole album is nothing but songs of the highest caliber, each song as good as the last. The album has a dense, anxious, exciting and epic feel. Created by the driving force of Michael Romeo's guitar, Russell's incomprehensible vocal ability- comparable to Dio or David Byron. Operatic moments that are not only comparable to Queen's similar jumps in genre, but have brilliant Orchestration and arrangements. If you're impressed by operas such as Faust or Parov, this is right up your ally.

Every song on this album is 4 stars at least, all just as appealing as the next, with great riffs, complicated and interesting instrumental bits, solos from all instruments that will blow most virtuosos out of the water, and small concept pieces that take metaphors from Catholicism, Greek mythology, Egyptian mythology and Modern Philosophy such as Hargner and Bestirs. Overall, if you're a fan of Progressive Metal, this album, along with most other Symphony X albums, is one of the most key works of music you could ever have. Not because of any ground breaking, sophisticated, over complicated compositions, but because of sheer greatness. This album, to me, is a serious stand out.
