4 stars The eponymous follow-up to Syd Barrett's outstanding, scratchy, stark solo debut, the Madcap Laughs, produced by the close friends David Gilmour and Rick Wright who provide a heavy helping of musical assistance. Syd was a true genius, in his music, and nobody ever wrote songs like him, and nobody probably ever will. This album it's an interesting look into a damaged mind,.

1. Baby Lemonade - Surely one of Syd's greatest songs, a song of alienation and abandonment full of weird ritards and a nearly coherent melody. "In the evening, sun going down, when the earth streams in in the morning. Send a cage through the post, make your name like a ghost..." The lyrics are brilliantly surreal 5/5

2. Love Song - This is one of those wonderfully naive love songs that only Syd could pull off, and the song is just as intimate and beautiful. Once again the lyrics are pure English Poetry! 5/5

3. Dominoes - is a great song too as Love Song, which David Gilmour performed at his Royal Festival Hall concerts in 2002 in London 5/5

4. It is Obvious - poor 2/5

5. Rats - bizarre and weird. 1/5

6. Maisie -The bluesy riff on "Maisie" is nothing special. And we hear the lyrics of someone, no matter how altered by drugs and shades of mental illness, who has a singular voice. 2/5

7. Gigolo Aunt - has an extremely catchy melody (I guarantee it will stick in your head), the end is drawn with the piano/drum jam that closes the song. Wonderfully song 3.5/5

8. Waving My Arms in the Air - Good song. 4/5

9. I Never Lied to You - Good ballad.4/5

10. Wined and Dined - a striking little ballad with Barrett writing one of the least self-immolating lyrics of his post-Floyd life. 5/5

11. Wolfpack - very weird 2/5

12. Effervescing Elephant - is a delightful little child's tale (written at age 16, when Syd still had most of his mind), with Syd accompanied on tuba by Vic Saywell. 5/5

Im rating this album with - 3.5 stars

Final Conclusion - "Barrett" is perhaps more accessible than "The Madcap Laughs" simply because it features a more typical rock and a more traditional "songs" approach. . This album is very honest and from the heart. Syd is not trying to be a star or appeal to a mass audience here. This album is a "dysfunctional masterpiece." Unfortunately this was Syd Barrett last album. Fans of Pink Floyd will want to check this out.
