Released in 1971, this is arguably VDGG's finest hour, dealing with themes of alienation & despair in a way that only Hammill could, yet retaining his very English sense of humour and the absurd. Ably supported throughout by Jackson, Evans, and especially Hugh Banton.

Pawn Hearts is an ideal introduction to VDGG, and unhesitatingly recommended.
