4 stars Octopus might be the most medieval-sounding album that Gentle Giant had ever produced. It was the first time that John Weathers played the drums and the last time brother Phil Shulman recorded a CD together with the band. Octopus contains rocky songs (A Cry For Everyone, The Boys In The Band), classic-sounding titles (Raconteur, Troubadour, Dog's life), very beautiful, calm songs (The Advent Of Panurge, Think Of Me With Kindness), psychedelic tracks (River) and of course the masterpiece "Knots" in which Gentle Giant shows again their brilliancy in several voices chant. Indeed Octopus is full of alternation and brilliant musical work but somehow the ambiance is missing a bit. Anyhow this album is very good.
