5 stars After a seven-year absence, echolyn have come up with a very mature album. All influences have by now been assimilated and they don't sound like anyone else (not that they ever really did). « echolyn » is a little bit less rocking then « The End is Beautiful », but it has beautiful melodies and there's not fat to the more epic pieces, everything is there for a reason. Highlights include the fantastic opener « Island », « Some Memorial » (could be one of their more accomplished song) and « When Sunday Spills ». The minimalist cover and the packaging also mention merit? very well designed and miles away from the typical prog look. I first saw echolyn back in 1993 when they came to Quebec City for the first time and I'm happy that they're still going strong today.
