4 stars ELYSIUM THEORY hail from New York, and 'Event Horizon' (2013) follows their debut album 'Modern Alchemy' (2010). This American quintet consists of Daniel Peterson (lead vox), Benny Reyes (synthesizers & pianos), Timothy Reid (guitars), Ted Feeney (drums) and Jeffrey Fister (bass). I would categorize their style as sophisticated prog with metal tendencies. The mood changes from subtle to rocking, from bombast to delicacy that's played in a good way. Elysium Theory bridge the distance between feel and technique, between the conventions and the beauty. In spite of complexity, the material sounds like a coherent work rather than just a mess of technical sections thrown together to impress. The result unfolds into adventurous listening experience. All in all, 'Event Horizon' is a forward thinking, intrigue, superbly executed release by competent outfit.
