3 stars Like Volume 1 of this pair, Volume 2 consists of 2 CDs - actually one is a DVD, and therein really lies its value. The CD includes 5 tracks that already appeared in a superior version on the "Live" album. Its highlights among the others are "Puppenspiel", a German language version of UK's "In the Dead of Night" called "Schwarzer Als Die Nacht" which helps one trace the late prog/neo lineage of AD, the pretty "Nach Diesem Tag", and a fiery version of "Another Day Like Superman".

Unfortunately the DVD is youtube quality, from a 1981 concert in Frankfurt. At first it seems as dark as a B horror flick but eventually the eyes adjust and, while the sound has some irritating fits and starts, it too shall pass in time. In spite of its flaws it is plain to see that AD were not showmen in the 1970s prog sense, appearing generally stiff on stage, but possessing a flashiness chiefly in the alternating guitars and keyboards of Uwe Karpa and Mattias Ulmer respectively, particularly in the 40 minute "Piktors Verwandlungen". Harald Bareth does a fair bit of explaining prior to most songs and seems earnest if not a bit overly serious. Another great showcase is what appears to be an early version of "Tanz Und Tod", prior to the release of In Blau on which it first made studio landfall. They certainly delivered fans their money's worth, even down to the several encores, including an almost bluegrass tune "Hot Pot Potato".

Although Karpa and Ulmer reunited in the early 2000s with a new band and lead singer, this might be the only chance you will have to see the original formation. Recommended for any fan, but newbies will want to check out the other live and 80s recordings first, in that order.
