4 stars THird album from their catalogue named The killing process is in my opinion their best so far, and one of the true lamost masterpieces of the genre. Released in 2002 on small label Adipocere Records, The killing process hits with every note, excellent progresive/technical death metal of the highest calibre with some of the most great musicianship I ever heared on this kind of music, for that they desearve 5 stars, brilliant. The guitarist Pascal Lanquetin kick ass for sure, he done on some parts some truly amazing work, fantastic riffs and solos. Now, what I find little low point in Carcariass sound and overall music is the voice, the voice is little to paced, It's growling all the time of course, not realy bad, but the tone of voice is not one I really enjoy a lot and the drumer, while I find him very energic on their previous work, on alert all the time, on this album they change the structure, I mean the drums are more mature and clean in sound, but is not so fast and furious and all the time on alert like must sound the drums in this kind of music, try to imagine how fast and working all the time are on a Death record or Atheist, here is ok , but to laid back and paced, but not bad. So, some killing pieces are Burn In Peace, title track, opening one with some great bass playing, musicaly speaking worth 4 stars is more mature, more intristing like previous 2 works, only the drums and vocal in some parts drag down from being a masterpiece. I enjoy a lot this band and specialy this album, well playd progressive/technical death metal that keeps the flag high in this genre. recommended, fans of the genre will enjoy this album and band in general.

3 stars A surprising turn of events can be reported from France. Their grindmasters Carcariass has gone melodic.

Well, this band was really never a grindcore combo. Death metal was more their style until this album. And their basis is still death metal. But a lot of elements of melody and some industrial metal has also been introduced. Some would also say; deathcore. But the main impression is that this is a surprisingly melodic album which is really bordering to the prog metal genre. Some songs are also well into the prog metal genre. Some of the songs also reminds me about what Pestilence did on their excellent Testimony Of The Ancient album.

Unfortunate, the art of great songwriting has not been introduced into this album. But the songs here are still very good and I have found myself really enjoying this album.

Bravo and viva la France !

3.5 stars
