3 stars This particular outing is more traditional, or at least as traditional as Alan Stivell can be. Electric guitars and keyboards are eschewed in favour of more conservative instruments of Celtic music, and arrangements are generally sparse and thinly layered. This makes E Langonned less appealing for fans who prefer a greater prog quotient, but to suggest that "Jenovofa", "Diougan Guenc'hlan", and "Ar Voraerion" are devoid of an adventurous spirit would be unfair and inaccurate. Stivell is in fine voice here, building mini verse upon mini verse while plucking fervently. In Stivell's world the performer has a duty that extends beyond artistic integrity. He must inject something, nay, everything of himself and his musical worldview into his interpretation of the ancient performance. The modern listener demands no less, and, in much of E Langonned, is not disappointed.
