2 stars An excellent two-for-one budget release for those who either love doom metal or those late arriving Anathema fans who want to find out more about the history of this band.

For me, Anathema is all about Crestfallen and Serenades. These releases are like old friends to me and I have yet to hear their latest releases. That does not mean I rate them highly. We all have blood-relatives which is putrid, annoying and too noisy. To a certain degree; this double CD is the same. I feel I have outgrown them. I wonder if I should send it to a retirement home.

Besides of that; the music here is plain doom metal. It can be compared to Candlemass, Black Sabbath and Cathedral. There is some progressive elements to the music. I prefer Crestfallen to Serenades because the songs are better. But both of these CDs are decent. I would recommend this to Anathema fans and/or doom metal fans. Two or three stars ? I guess two will do.

2.5 stars
