GREAT AMERICAN GINGERBREAD

Never mind that British, absolute horrible band called Spice Girls. Rasputina is the only real spice girls out there. This combo of a CD and a DVD proves that.

Let me start with the DVD which is filmed at the Knitting Factory in New York, US of A. Three your girls with cello/bass sitting in the front of a large audience in a very intimate setting. The vocalist, band founder and driving force in Rasputina; Ms Melora Creager, is transfixing the audience with her down to earth songs. Down to earth, but still some very good songs. This is Kate Bush territory although Melora Creager's voice is not as great as Kate Bush. But her stage presence is as good or even better than Kate Bush. Less is more, is the lesson here. And this DVD is a lot.

The CD contains some rarities and strange songs. This is by no means a greatest hits collection. But songs like Pudding Crypt, Ballad of Lizzie Borden and by far the best song here; Children's Reform Center, should be enough to confirm that Rasputina is something really special.

This is by no means a greatest hits album. But the DVD and the three songs mentioned above is alone worth this investment. Some duds here drags this compilation down to three stars. But let me reiterate my beliefs that Rasputina is something special all curious cats in ProgArchives should investigate.
