3 stars This edition of the single for "Dead Star" is for the French first edition, which on the back sleeve of the CD listed the first four tracks, and then two videos. The videos were a misprint as the CD actually had an instrumental version of Dead Star instead of the two videos. Basically, what you end up with is the songs "Dead Star", "In Your World", and "Futurism", 3 mediocre hard rock tracks that have minor ties to progressive rock, and a pretty cool rendition of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You". The instrumental version of Dead Star is exactly what it says, but I must admit, it almost makes the song better to have the vocals removed. Of course, one of the main draws for Muse is the over the top flamboyant vocals from Matthew Bellamy. Yes he is an amazing singer, but I need more than that, and alas, at this time, Muse was more interested in getting sales than in making great music for this maxi-single. As for me, I've never been a huge Muse fan, but I tend to like the Absolution album better than any of them and even then, it is only on occasion. They've been kind of hit and miss, staying on the wrong side of commercialism more than on the progressive side.
