Some short impressions on a very short release! This 15-minute EP is over before you know it. Kundabuffer are a young band from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and this EP is their debut release. Think about a cross between the first Tea Club album's punkish, driving rock, a little dose of Kingston Wall's trippy modern psych, maybe just a hint of Dungen? I would guess there is some 90s alt-rock influence at work as well. They state some of their personal influences as Pescado Rabioso, Zappa, Zeppelin, Nirvana, Crimson, Coltrane, Wolfmother, The Mars Volta, Floyd, Colour Haze, Neu! and Hendrix. The four short tracks (one is just two minutes long) are mostly rip-roaring rock with intense vocals, heavy thrashy guitars, and bold bass/drums. The contrast comes in the breaks where the band smooth out the sound into somewhat dreamy territory. It is then we hear some nuance in the dual guitars, some atmosphere being created, a sense that there is a desire to explore beyond the payoff of the hard rock (which i also love!). They do a nice job of combining that dreamy beautiful state (No Encuentro Razón) with pure immediacy (Amanecer). This is a modest entry onto the prog-rock scene but one which shows enthusiasm and great potential. We'll hear more from this band, hopefully a full length release somewhere down the road-best of luck guys! Nice cover art by Roy Gattero. My personal message to Kundabuffer is to check out the Finnish band Kingston Wall featuring Petri Walli, I think you'll love them.
