4 stars More than once, I have encountered places near and far that resemble so much The Residents "spirit". This "evil" gone rotten "soul" that permeates their musical-observations. Because The Residents have always embodied this "detached, mocking, political incorrect completely" observer-EYE-position; that as an un-earthly witness watches from every angles this thing we call existence. "Dolor Generar" ("Spanglish" for Generate Pain) like "Eskimo" is also a close encounter with a "different" culture. This time one that has been tried to be errased by fire; poverty and pain. -The borderland of the "forgotten". ...The people that were forced and settled to live in abbandon in the desert, and to eventually extinguish with time. The glorious? border between México and the USA, where two different native cultures were forced to be APART off the colonizers´s Empires. A place that has been existing under such conditions long before The Residents arrival to this planet. The crumbs of the most enduring pre-hispanic and pre-colony civilizations; a place; now in complete decay; and yet what brings these people together in their struggle for survival is "Magic" their only true heritage and weapon. The same as in "Eskimo"; the Residents when faced with a different or decadent-human condition by nature and not fad, lower down their mayhem ("desmadre" in spanish) and let the other "person/place" flow into their normally detached system. ....So whenever the San Francisco/USA born Resident traveling troupe faces up-font this kind of "reality"; things musically speaking turn out like a perfect-match. As always, their wry-humor can not be "isolated" from the project; but I repeat; it is sharper than mocking: and also a way to face real human disgrace. Me, myself, I never really have cared much about lyrics (no one unless Dylan and alikes) this journey has a story so if you dwell into it you will find the humor. But MUSIC-wise the experience is another picture. I have been around those desert regions and these guys "Musical-Photographs" capture the whole air as if being there again. These touring guides make no unnecessary introductions, shortcuts or abbreviations; they immerse themselves directly within the place and start to breathe this now decadent condition; but also its "magic"....This "21 st century" Residents are sophisticated as hell and yet they are not eaten by abusing this now more "luxurious" musical/recording gadgets. They; as few- have polished their language but not their manners. BRAVO! ****4 "Musical self-evolution; without losing integrity or becoming pretentious in the process, of this almost Masterful work" Stars.
