4 stars A very short lived metal project formed from the ashes of Alchemist and which has seemed to have moved on to other things, The Levitation Hex gave us a neat album to chew on in their time together. The main style of the record is to start on smoother, calmer riffs and lulls before breaking into their tech death. In fact this is the best part and and saving grace of the album, as their tech is skillful but rather common. These openings are wonderful, mainly calm run ups, but even better with "A Breathing Apparatus" where it starts off uneasy, and is a more forceful non-metallic run-up. The metal itself is good, but again, very similar has all been done before. The tech is enjoyable for what it is, as the band pulls it off well, so there isn't much to be disappointed with. So really, this is an album that is listened to for its openings, each unique and masterful, and leading up to decent riffage. Listening brought to mind "Traced In Air", and fans of recent Cynic might especially get some enjoyment out of this on balance four star record.
