4 stars I can't believe this is the first review of this album. This is the soundtrack of the homonym movie by Dario Argento. Officially this work is not credited to Goblin but only to Simonetti, Pignatelli and Morante (in fact without Marangolo they weren't able to use the name Goblin). It was the 1982 and as a consequence we can see a a change in their style: they experimented new solutions such as the vocoder and the drum machine. Anyway it's not a radical change, in fact you can easiiy find traces of the old Goblin style. The whole work is very dynamic and sometimes a bit electronic and I think this is an axcellent addition to any prog music collection! Recommended!

3 stars There might have been a special a little flow as a location with the band of Prog Rock of other Italy if the history of the music character that Goblin created and the activity was considered. And, it is also true in a part that exists Dario Argento that holds the attention of trust in the part of the music character and creativity and is related to have put the name of Goblin on a special further position.

The thought separately for some items is good at the respect. The part of the work of Music for the movie known well as a part to inform them of their activity and name is the most important in the activity of Goblin. Therefore, it is a part of the flavor and the melody of original Rock in the content of "Roller" announced in 1976 if it thinks about their overall histories. And, the route of "Il Fantastico Viaggio Del Bagarozzo Mark" announced in 1978 will be able to be called valuable existence in the flow of Prog Rock of Italy at that time. It always gives an important impression to the history of Goblin as an original album that is caught from the angle besides the music for various movies to which they were related and produced.

However, it is partial a little fluid the relation of the member gradually as the activity since "Roller" and "Suspiria". Revolutionizing the Music character and might also have loosely had the becoming it part in ..directionality of the band.. age. The creation of the member who was the nucleus from the time of "Amo Non Amo" announced in 1979 gradually faces opening of the band by other musicians' participation. Eminence concerning the music for the movie done as an activity of their music is certainly important. Therefore, the flow of coexisting of the music for an original part and the movie led the history of the band to a special part further. As for it, the impression of merits and demerits caused by the band that is related to Soundtrack might be included.

The part of their music characters at time when it rushed into in the 80's headed for the part where the band was dissolved as a result. However, the part of the music character that they did can be caught as very important existence when comparing it as a history and a position of other bands.

It was Dario Argento to request the music for the movie from the band that existed in the state of dissolution. And, it might be at a little special position for them if the content of this album is considered overall as a situation of the band at that time and a problem of the right concerning the name. It is located from the album by complete "Goblin" to a little different route if it thinks about the content of this album. Part where construction of music with Pignatelli-Simonetti-Morante is formed as name in album. It is said that Dario Argento demanded the revival of complete Goblin from them. However, it is partial of the problem concerning the name of the band. Or, it is said that the route of Disco Music to which Claudio Simonetti devoted oneself at that time made Fabio Pignatelli anxious. The part of the synthetic music pushed out appears remarkably the Music character and forward in the album. Participation was requested to drum player's Agostino Marangolo for the production of the album. However, there is no participation of the drum player in this album as a result for other work. Flow of various situations concerning the above-mentioned description. Part of which element of synthetic music went out strongly. And, it is partial to which it went in the drum by the program. Part where music character that Fabio Simonetti has appears. Construction of tune with part where Vocoder and a few Disco Music are recollected. Consisting is also true as the Music character calculated enough as Music for the horror movie. the Music character to create in the albumThis album became work for Soundtrack that they did as a result at the end. However, this album can be caught as construction of the tune to project the age indeed if it considers it as an impression as Soundtrack. And, it might be an album to contribute effectively to expand the width of the movie.

As for "Tenebre", the melody that gives the tension gets on the rhythm of five rhythms. Part of Vocoder to introduce effectively. An impressive melody with the synthesizer and the line of Bass decide the impression of the album.

"Gemini" produces a complete tension and the anacatesthesia. Construction of rhythm intermittently repeated. Atmosphere of synthesizer in close relation to the rhythm. And, it is partial of Chord of the refined guitar. And, it might be a part of harmonics picking by Bass that contributes most in this tune. The performance gives the listener an effective impression in union.

As for "Slow Circus", the melody with the synthesizer recollects the sound of the music box. The effect with good tension in close relation to a few, bright melodies is made. It exactly takes charge of the part where an effective part for the movie was constructed.

As for "Lesbo", the refined arpeggio of the guitar and the rhythm straight are impressive. And, the melody of an expression of feelings keyboard in close relation to the rhythm of Rock is an impressive tune. It consists as construction of the melody that reflects the age. And, the tension of the synthesizer that appears at the end of the tune is effective.

"Flashing" shifts from the part of the melody that flows in the space to the part of the melody of repeated rhythm and tension. The part for atmosphere and the movie of the tune with the age is exactly produced. The contribution of the melody with the synthesizer might be large.

"Tenebre reprise" applies the change to the melody of the theme of "Tenebre". Part of melody that takes the place of impression in expression of feelings part. The taste in the part with the synthesizer and the guitar is expressed well. The line of Bass that twines effectively and the rhythm that flows quietly give another impression.

"Waiting Death" almost recollects the melody of "Tenebre". As for the sound, I feel an age at that time. However, it is likely to consist as a flow to which this tune also promoted the melody of "Tenebre" further. A tension and consistent atmosphere in close relation to the rhythm straight are expressed well.

As for "Jane Mirror Theme", the transparent feeling of the synthesizer and the guitar feature. The flow is done and ..consistent.. united from the melody that produces the sense of relief as a part where the melody of "Tenebre" was introduced. Impressions of the album are united to the last minute.

The member who is related to this album is related to the activity of each music further. However, the relation of him Soundtrack might be very important in the history of the music character of Goblin. The impression away from the directionality of complete Goblin is given in this album. However, zeal to the work of Soundtrack is reflected in this album for them.

3 stars "Fear". This is the translation of the Italian word that can be catched with a bit of attention on the title track confused by the vocal effects, likely a vocoder.

This is another soundtrack for a Dario Argento's horror movie as big part of Goblin's discography. However the music is not strictly functional to the movie, in the sense that it hasn't been written, likely, to comment specific moments or situations but it's of the right kind to be used as comment by the director.

The opener sounds like a Mike Oldfield's tribute or clone. This is not a new, the famous band's debut "Profondo Rosso" was clearly in debt with Tubular Bells.

"Gemini" is really more interesting. In few more than three minutes it goes from Vangelis to Tangerine Dream to Krautrock. The work of Pignatelli at bass is remarkable.

Children are closer to the realm of the deads. This is why childish melodies, when distorted, can transmit a sense of fear. This is what "Slow Cirkus" does. In musical terms it's a chime playing little outtuned surrounded by spacey sounds.

"Lesbo" is totally different. Initially the guitar sounds similar to Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear The Reaper then it evolves into a slow-rock instrumental driven by Simonetti's keyboards. Nice and easy, a bit dated to the 80s in the sounds. In the middle of the song, after few seconds of silence it unexpectedly turns into space rock.

"Flashing" is Krautrock. Electronic music of the 80s, like late Tangerine Dream or also Kraftwerk. After 3 minutes the repetitive electronic melody is replaced by drums and spacey sounds, then it reprises in the last minute just more noisy.

The reprise of the title track appears darker. It's less electronic and there are less drums. It's more functional to comment a movie and surely more symphonic. The word "Fear" is disappeared.

"Waiting Death" starts where the previous track ends but with a church organ. It makes me think to Wakeman's Criminal Record. Here "Fear" is reprised. It's more a follow-up to the previous track than a track of its own.

Two minutes of keyboard and guitar close the album. "Jane Mirror Theme" has an organ part that reprises Waiting Death before fading out.

A good album that doesn't pay too much to the fact of being a soundtrack. It can be appreciated alone, without knowing anything of the movie (that I haven't ever seen). 3 well deserved stars.

3 stars Seen by some as Argento's last great film before his long, slow decline, 1982's 'Tenebrae' features American actor Anthony Franciosa as a successful horror novelist promoting his new book in Rome, only to discover that the book is influencing a rather nasty copycat killer. Very much a return to the director's giallo roots, 'Tenebrae' finds the Italian director blending slasher elements(a sub-genre then in it's infancy) with a murder mystery plot, though his trademark flourishes, such as the stylish, fluid camerawork and yet more brutal and bloody violence, are still very much in check. Curiously, much of 'Tenebre' is filmed during the day, with most of the action set in either harsh, brightly lit interiors or outdoors during natural light . As a result, 'Tenebre' features a rather unsettling tone, but like much of Argento's work, this carefully-constructed design is sadly marred by some rather weak acting, some genuinely atrocious dubbing, and, once again, the director's almost complete disregard for the convetions of plot and narrative. Therefore, despite the lofty claims of some esteemed film writers, 'Tenebre' proves a genuine mixed bag, even for long time fans like this very writer, with excellent technical craft spoiled by lazy writing and bad acting. The same, however, canot be said the soundtrack from three of the members of Argento's usual soundtrack aurthors Goblin. Issued under the moniker of Simonetti-Pignatelli-Morante, 'Tenebre' has become something of a fan favourite over the years, even hittng the mainstream thanks to its sampling by the french dance duo Justice on their excellent 2007 debut album 'Cross'. The title-track, with it's whirring synth lines and bouncy melody, belongs to that small group of iconic Goblin theme tunes that beautifully sum up the feel of their respective movies, though here there is a slightly modernistic, almost dancey edge to the music. The rest of the album is made up of the usual instrumental pieces, some better than others, but like all soundtrack albums the key is to listen to it all in one go. Only then can you grasp the fundamental dynamic of both movie and album. So, not quite in the same class as the real Goblin classics - read 'Suspiria' or 'Deep Red' - but 'Tenebre' certainly has it's moments. The film may prove disappointing, but don't let that put you off, this is still vintage Goblin. STEFAN TURNER, STOKE NEWINGTON, 2014
