3 stars Dry River from Spain was a really nice surprise for me. They are a young band who released in december 2011 their first opus named El Circo de la Tierra. Well, what we have here is a mixed bag of everything, progressive metal, some hard rock here and there on couple of pieces, some more mellower tracks, but the result is quite intristing to my ears. The musicians knows to handle the instruments and creating something of intrest specilly for those who are more into prog metal I guess. This is the kind of album , at least for me that has no head and no tail. The band incorporated to many genres into one unit, overall is not bad but is not a clear direction , musicaly speaking. The highlights to me are the two progressive metal pieces Pequeño Animal and Nuevos Tiempos, really solid pieces and the musicianship is top notch. The rest are ok, not bad but to hard rock for my taste , minus the title track who is like the title hahah, circus prog metal at some point. Aunque Sin Ti and Quédate un Rato Más are hard rock tunes and it sounds like in early '90's, not bad but nothing special either. So, in the end I like what I've heard here, overall intresting is the main word, if the next album will be concentrated more on one style will be better, for me. 3.5 star good towards great in places.
