1 stars BUCKETHEAD - PIKE 71 - CELERY 30th album out of 60 in 2014 and 101st overall All sounds brought to you by Buckethead and all instrumental This one has only one long track that clocks in at 29:03

"Celery" (29:03)

This single track begins with a slow tempo incorporating a grungy guitar, bass and drums. It doesn't sound unlike many of the alternative metal types of PIKEs. The guitar riffs are firm and crunchy just like the vegetable when you bite into it. As you can imagine a single track requires all kinds of changes and shapeshifting to hold any interest whatsoever and "Celery" does just that. It morphs and slowly drifts into different guitar riffs and melodies but stubbornly adheres to a slightly slower than mid tempo pace.

And just as feared this is one of those endless loops where the melodic development churns out the same chord sequences and adds ever increasing speed and guitar solo intensity but despite all the guitar wizardry taking place still remains a fairly boring song overall. While these types of PIKEs tend to be those really slow chilled ones, this one does offer some energetic zest at least but unfortunately it's not enough to keep my interest. I simply had to surf on the internet while this was playing in the background and even then i found it irritatingly predictable and unsatisfying even as background music. It does venture into the hard rock territory but never goes into metal

Nah, next
