3 stars PIKE 194 - 13 DAYS TIL HALLOWEEN: MAPLE SYRUP is the 93rd album released by BUCKETHEAD in 2015 and the 19th installment in the countdown to HALLOWEEN. Yet another dark ambient horror soundtrack performed exclusively by BUCKETHEAD and clocks in just 6 second over the 30 minute mark. There are 8 tracks all titled "Maple Syrup" and another PIKE where all the tracks pretty much run together seamlessly.

This PIKE starts off with echoey sounds including some strings that reverberate and some percussive things in the distance. This continues with the same types of sounds speeding up, slowing down and disappearing and then doing it all over again. The general atmosphere is very spooky, has a dark thick tension and creates some interesting dynamics with a limited palette.

While this one is a little repetitive and very much like some of the PIKES that i find boring, the certain sound of the echoey ambience, the creeping up of the string runs like a spider across the ceiling waiting to jump and plunge its fangs into any passerby truly does summon the stuff of nightmares. This PIKE is very effective in the creepy department. Since there is not a lot of variation going on throughout this one it is more effective as a background soundtrack. Still though quite good.
