3 stars Violeta de Outono is one of the rare Psychedelic rock band from the 80's inspired by bands such as Gong and Pink Floyd. I started listenning to them with the "Violeta de Outono" album release and I really liked it, they do sound like a Progressive "U2" at first hearing, it is in fact really more innovative and certainly one of the best bands in Brazil ! :)

This record is release of old material they used to record in studio, there is no original track in here, only covers of old classic bands such as Pink Floyd, Gong, Beatles, Rolling Stones etc.. While the covers sound really great there is no real innovation with the songs, they are covered without real changement or improvisation except for the Last song of the album, wich is the greatest: Echoes/No Quarter (Originally from Pink Floyd and Led Zepellin), This track is really Atmospheric they mix these two song starting with the first part of Echoes (The first "Pings" of the original Echoes are here replaced by the first keyboard note of No Quarter) and ending with the magnificent No Quarter...

This is violeta de Outono, one of the few great bands I wouldn't have discovered without progarchives! I'd rate this album "Very Good but non-essential" because this is just covers, but I really recommend the "Violeta De Outono" excellent album.

2 stars A Brazilian psyche band from the eighties playing some songs from the sixties! Did you say original?

Some of these songs being genuine psyche or space rock anthems, I don't think it was really necessary to release an album around these songs. But since "Violeta?" did it, let's review this work.

IMHHO the most interesting track is the re-sculpture of the "Gong "song. A phenomenal beat throughout "Blues For Findlay". It kicks all the way through and is by far the best that one can get here.

Not that the other covers are weak, but an attempt on "Interstellar Overdrive" or the wonderful "Echoes" is quite daring. In this respect, the song from the Beatles or the Stones is more sustained and successful. The short part dedicated to "No Quarter" is a total disaster in terms of vocals. I really don't get the point of this kaleidoscope. A medley between "Echoes" and "No Quarter"! They must have paid quite a bunch of royalties to release such an album!

Depending on your knowledge of the original songs and your attitude towards a reshape of these; I guess that you could rate this work between one and four stars. I just remain critical and I rate this album with two stars.
