4 stars Their music theory is simple but complicated ... the album "On Second Thought" was released in 2018 as the second album of a French avantgarders The DUSTMAN DILEMMA. Such a weird sleeve pic tells something novel, that avantgarde fans should get immersed in completely.

The first titled track, featuring deeply dark, suppressive chorus along with cynical, complex but fundamental, primitive melodic lines, sounds quite funky and monotonous. This sound atmosphere cannot be heard usually methinks. It might be fine this strategy be their characteristic and intention. On the contrary, the second "Facing The Dilemma" where crazy, energetic saxophone play is pretty impressive, exactly reminds me of Japanese jazz rock pride Djamra, filled with strange rhythmic basis and unpredictable melodic progression. Every single phrase is not so tough to be understood but the combination of all sentences is beyond expression. Even the shortest one "Resignation" is not easy for you to digest, I'm sure.

"Beyond The Veil", one of my favourite songs of theirs, can be called as another introspection. This bluesy one should be seasoned with sensitive moonshine-ish beautiful texture by moderate but serious, strict keyboard works. All instruments get unified into musically sincere attitude. "Back And Glad" is a comfort full of funny, funky danceable voices and shouts and mischievous sound structure in the middle part. Basically they play without massive complexity (also in "Definitely Hammered" every single measure sounds pretty simple really) but sound / music crystallization is innovative and amazing. Anyway I suppose if they might play such an improvised inactivity (in a good sense of course!) like the last "Foresign" ... very enjoyable for me to see the appearance of the audience.

In conclusion, their musical method for the audience is that they construct complicated architecture with short, tiny, but intensive, vigorous phrases together. Makes sense.
