3 stars This is classified as Psychedelic/Space Rock, and rarely does a genre label fit the music as well as this one does. This is an instrumental album that is pretty much the definition of Psychedelic/Space Rock. Hypnotic rhythms, a relaxed psychedelic mood and lots of spacey noises from the synthesizers. There's also some trumpet in space, that is with lots of reverb. The rhythm session is very straight and has some good drive. It is also mixed up, so overall pretty dominant, but leaves enough space for the space. The reliance on straight rhythm patterns shows some post rock influence, and particularly the slower last track has some post rock dynamics, but overall the most obvious influence are the Ozric Tentacles.

The album is played very confidently, but it is free flowing and has nothing of the soulless perfectionism that can be found on many modern prog and heavy albums. Actually I like it a lot that the guys play this kind of music unapologetically in 2018, and the album is good fun and its rhythmic spine makes it quite powerful in places. So I can recommend it to everyone who likes this kind of stuff. I can't give 4 stars though because there's no denying that this is rather derivative. I like all of it but on the other hand there's nothing that really surprises or enlightens me. 3.2 stars.
