2 stars Seems I have a condensed version of this release that features about half of the material from this album and sports a different cover. The version that I found is on the CRYPTIC label, which I think is somehow related to the RALPH records label. That being said,I can give my opinion of the songs on the version that I have.I suppose the most noticable thing about the version that I have is that the sound quality is not very good. The clarity is ok,but the sound is thin and very weak. Even when this lp is cranked up,it still can't really muster enough bass to push my subwoofer. Not that the RESIDENTS were ever a band to feature a lot of bass sounds in the studio releases, but there was SOME bass present, at least. As for the music contained; there is a good cross section of songs from many phases of RESIDENTS music.Although the choices for songs are overall very good, they seem to be performed rather pooly to me.Every song runs into the next one, without any pauses; so much so that it's really hard to tell where each tune begins and ends. All songs are tied together with some cheesy synth noodling in between each track. To me,this becomes tiresome very quickly. Two of the best cuts included are penned and performed by the late great SNAKEFINGER;PICNIC IN THE JUNGLE and SMELLY TOUNGES.Not to say that this album is a complete throw away, since I have only the condensed version to judge by.But this was never a favorite of mine and the flat sound recording was an even bigger turn off for me.I can give this one 2 1/2 stars for a rating but,if you want to hear a good RESIDENTS live recording then try to seek out a copy of THE MOLE SHOW LIVE which is a RESIDENTS approved bootleg. I cannot give much info on this bootleg, since there in no info anywhere on the copy that I have! In fact, there is no writing of any kind on the MOLESHOW bootleg. But,it does pop up from time to time at records shows and some record shops that still sell actual records.I'm pretty sure that the mole show boot has never made it to cd format yet.
