2 stars Mix one part class with five parts water...

The second and final solo release from When Day Descends, before the full band was initiated.

The Good: I was initially very impressed when I first listened to this epic single-track album, and this format means it is available for download from Amazon for the princely sum of 0.79, so its definitely worth a punt!

The Bad: In comparison to the band's much heavier self-titled release, Ascension is a crossover between post-rock and film score. This is a nice idea but the result becomes somewhat diluted and is neither ambient enough to be enjoyed as background music, nor is it interesting enough to hold my attention during sessions of extended listening. Still, there is enough here to merit revisiting on occasion.

The Verdict: The worst of both worlds, the best of neither.
