Jimmy Yoko & Shin biography
JIMMY, YOKO & SHIN was forgotten and mysterious jazz-rock trio from Japan.

Group was founded by keyboardist Yoko SUMIYAS, bassist and guitarist Jimmy SHIRONAGA and percussionist Shin OKABE. During their carrier they won the first prize at the first Jazz Grand Prix in Japan. Their only opus entitled Sei Shonagon (after name of Japanese author and poet) was released in 1978.

Record is divided into fragments assosiated with various times from the history of Japan. Uniqueness of this group lies in their usage of folk/traditional Japan music elements, uncompromising theatral vocals (which may bring to mind even Zeuhl) combined with long, very developed and meandering compositions. The basis of the music are long keyboard passages (synthesizers and piano), loud bass and often changing, complex rhythms. With this musical ingredients and lyrics inspired by classical literature Sei Shonagon is unique musical experience.

This lost treasure of musical jigoku is recommended for most adventurous fans of Canterbury Scene and atypical jazz-rock.
