Obsidian Mantra biography
Obsidian Mantra are a Polish progressive death metal band from Wielkopolskie. The unsigned group began as a quartet in 2014, consisting of guitarist and vocalist Kacper Kajzderski, guitarist Rafał Porwich, bassist Maria Ewa Bryłka and drummer Mateusz Witan. Like a cross between Meshuggah, Gojira and Gorguts, Obsidian Mantra play a groovy, dense and dissonant brand of death metal.

The group released 2015's EP Burden Brought by Whispers and 2017's full-length Existential Gravity before the lineup underwent a massive shift, with Porwich and Bryłka departing and leaving Kajzderski to handle additional bass duties. Guitarist Jan Grzesiak later joined and the trio issued their sophomore Minds Led Astray in 2020 to positive acclaim. The LP is a loose concept album addressing irrationality and mankind's vulnerability to it, drawing on and referring to the skepticism tradition extending from the first protests against witch trails, throughout denouncing the spiritists séances to more recent activity of modern skeptics.

Obsidian Mantra are reminiscent of RXYZYXR, Eryn Non Dae., Barús, Gorod, Blindead and Ulcerate.
