A La Ping Pong biography
A LA PING PONG was a widely unknown German prog electronic/krautrock project led by Klaus BLOCH (electric, glissando and acoustic guitars, bass, flute, bells, gong, Ping Pong Electronic System and Ping Pong guitar, electronic drums). The project released two albums, 'Extrem Musik A La Ping Pong Phase I' (1980) and 'Phase II - Go Go Pongs' (1981).

On the first release BLOCH was supported by Matthias ROMANN (electric guitar, bass, gong) and Thomas WASILISZCZAK (electric guita, gong). On the second Hucky THOSS (drums), Karsten RECKE (electric piano, sequencers, electronic percussion) and Hardy KUKUK (string synths, sequencers) - a musician known from the Berlin School album 'Atemnot' (1981), which also featured Klaus BLOCH, who released years later in 2000 another more obscure album 'Gnomania' (2000).

On their albums the progressive electronic sequencers wave sound mixes with ambient-abstract passages, electronic percussion beats (often in the kraut-motorik style), looped guitar solos and effects (the electronic tape delay system used to record the guitars similar to the Frippertronic style). Both albums might be a very valuable addition to the musical collection for fans of Manuel Göttsching, Günter Schickert, Harmonia, Heldon, Cluster, Fripp and Eno.
