Patrick Grant biography
Patrick Grant is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist based in New York City. In addition to being an active performer and concert organizer in New York's experimental music scene and creating scores for film, theatre and art installations, he has been the founder and leader of the guitar ensemble Tilted Axes since 2014, and has since 2017 released two solo albums through his company, Peppergreen Media. The first of these, A Sequence Of Waves (featuring Nick Didkovsky of Doctor Nerve and David Borden of Mother Mallard), while placed firmly in the rock sphere, showed influence from jazz fusion and minimalist music, reflecting Grant's earlier collaboration with Philip Glass. Grant's second solo album, 2018's Fields Amaze, took a far more experimental direction and saw him cover a vast stylistic ground, from microtonal minimalistic piano-based gamelan pieces to complex woodwind-dominated chamber prog to ominous guitar-heavy R.I.O. with hints of Present or Univers Zero.
