Alexander Tucker biography
Hailing from Kent, Alexander Tucker is a British multi-instrumentalist and visual artist who has forged a unique personal idiom in the realm of 21st century psychedelic folk. Now based in London, Tucker has released eight albums and three EPs of his idiosyncratic American primitivism-inspired acid folk, primarily composed and performed solo but occasionally executed with a cast of guest musicians. One half of experimental electronic duos Grumbling Fur and Imbogodom, Tucker uses voice, acoustic guitar, cello and mandolin to craft droning, reflective and melancholic tapestries of sound both lyrical and instrumental, processed through effects and looping pedals.

Tucker began his musical journey in hardcore and post-rock, playing in the groups Suction and Unhome before joining American space rock band Füxa on their tour of the United Kingdom, spurring an interest in the world of experimental improvisational music. Tucker's early work took off after gaining the attention of Tom Greenwood of kraut/post-rock group Jackie-O Motherfucker, who released his debut self-titled album on his label U-Sound Archive. Tucker achieved further positive renown with his follow-up Old Fog, released via ATP Recordings, with whom he'd stay until switching to Thrill Jockey by the time of his 2011 LP Dorwytch. As his solo career took shape, Tucker would collaborate with a host of other artists such as filmmaker Phil Coy, performance artist Lali Chetwynd, and musicians like Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley, Circle's Jussi Lehtisalo and Duke Garwood. Tucker also found himself as the live guitarist for Bardo Pond and Jackie-O Motherfucker, and would join his Grumbling Fur partner Daniel O'Sullivan with Guapo's Dave Smith in avant-electronic project the Stargazer's Assistant.

According to Tucker, his last three albums - 2012's Third Mouth, 2018's Don't Look Away and 2019's Guild of the Asbestos Weaver - constitute a trilogy, showing more accessible electronica and pop influences seeping in from his work with Grumbling Fur, but likewise retaining his trademark experimental energy.

Alexander Tucker's music is warmly recommended to fans of Richard Youngs, Six Organs of Admittance, Flying Saucer Attack, P.G. Six, Voice of the Seven Woods and early Brian Eno.
